Alex is a pure expression of the Corfiot ‘Terroir’ and this is the reason why he is enchanted by the island’s climate, gastronomy, culture and natural beauty. At the beginning, he was fascinated by Bartending and Mixology because of his need to be creative and innovative thus spending most of his career as a Bar Manager. His restless spirit, though, led him to Belgium where he fell in love with french wine. Also, dealing with organic produce, changed his perspective for wine and life in general.
After travelling in several wine regions in France such as Bordeaux, Burgundy, Alsace, Provence and Southern Rhône, his real wine journey and pleasure began when he started acquiring more knowledge and experience. He is a holder of the WSET-Level 3 qualification in Wines and Spirits and also of the Introductory Certificate from the Court of Master Sommeliers. During the last years, he has worked as a Sommelier at the island’s fine dining scene after a small stint in London.
Outside of work, Alexandros finds great pleasure in swimming, looking after his lovely dog-Sissy and, of course, organising his vinous travels. He is currently studying for his WSET Diploma.
Stamatis was spending his summer school holidays at his uncle’s restaurant in Corfu, thus developed genuine passion for Gastronomy from his early years. As a result, his studies in Tourism and Hospitality were inevitable. Throughout his career, he has worked in various fine dining restaurants and five starred Hotels mostly in Food and Beverage management roles.
Later on in his life, he decided to make his passion a real career ‘adventure’ as he likes to put it. For this reason, he pursued the highest qualifications in the wine industry. He has successfully completed WSET’s flagship Diploma-Level 4 in Wines and Spirits, WSET Hestia-An Advanced Certificate of the World of Greek Wine as well as his Advanced Sommelier title from the Court of Master Sommeliers. In fact, he is the only Greek to possess all three qualifications. For the same reasons, he travelled around the European vineyard from the likes of Tuscany, Alsace, Loire, Mosel to Northern Rhône, Champagne and the volcanic island of Lanzarote. He recently returned to his homeland after spending several years in the UK as a Head Sommelier/Wine Buyer in such venues as The Gleneagles Hotel in Scotland and the Michelin starred restaurant La Trompette in Chiswick, London.
He now craves to share his knowledge and experience with all visitors in Corfu via Wine Ventures. He is a perpetual traveller, gastronome and occasionally a jogger! He is currently studying for his Master Sommelier Diploma.
